It is hard to believe that it is just two weeks since NASA's Curiosity Rover touched down on Mars. It has been sending back some fantastic images, see below, of the Red Planet from its onboard cameras.

Just a few hours after it had landed we had a live video link up with Dr John Bridges from the University of Leicester, who was in Mission Control at the Johnson Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.

Dr Bridges explained to an assembled audience, here in our Space Now gallery, about his involvement in the Curiosity mission and what they were looking for on Mars. It just shows how technology has made it so easy to link up around the world nowadays using the internet.

In the Education Team we regularly use live video links to schools in our Virtual Classroom programmes. It is quite simple and doesn't usually require schools to have a lot of equipment.

We have a number of different programmes on our website which schools can choose to book - from saving the islanders of Montserrat to asking our experts Space-associated questions

My earlier hair reference was related to a new piece of equipment that arrived during the week – a Van De Graaff generator. After initial evaluations we will be looking at ways we can use it in some of our presentations – apart from making your hair stand on end that is!!

With over half the summer holidays behind us the Team is getting ready for the start of the new term in September, with updated and new workshops ready to launch.

Finally, we are on the look out for a new presenter to join the Education Team. If you have read our previous news blogs then you'll be aware of some of the fun things we do, so if you feel you have the right stuff click here for more details.
